Z to A bars challenge: complete!

And that was it. another 26 bars, this time in reverse alphabetical order: Z to A.

It took 22 weeks to sensibly visit, whenever my schedule and pocket money allowed.

After the A to Z list, and considering whether BAR HOPPING was a reasonable hobby for a lady, I decided to forget all that junk and JUST ROLL WITH IT>

It’s hell fun planning bars, seeing new places, picking modes of transport – a bus, train, boats? – yep! I took all of those, to make for an adventure on top of an adventure. I gathered my friends or just went solo.

I drank cider, I drank tequila, I went through a big WHITE WINE phase apparently. Good beers, bad beers, lemonade and coffee! (Not together).

Ate Mexican foods, Asian foods, Indian foods, SPAGHETTI, Spanish FUSION.. all the foods, and the most DANGEROUS of all: NO foods.

I kept writing my notes (Still have the original notebook) my workmates egged me on to write stories.. Blogging was not even on my radar. I wasn’t planning on a lot of things. I wasn’t planning on falling in love.

Somewhere between Hellbound and Gerard’s bar I met a lovely fella named Matt (boyfriend) He’s been with me on the journey since at least Fitz n Potts.

2 days after what was supposed to be my LAST BAR (Alba bar) I woke up to find boyfriend at my computer “I made you something cutie”. Matt!

It was a WordPress account in my name. I’d never even heard of that until then. Now i was choosing a website name. He iconified my photo into the Chick icon. Really, if you’ve ever read anything on here – it’s thanks to him.

Sooo my quirky barfly challenge became a blog of bar stories, then a Facebook page, then an Instagram account! That’s not all that’s changed in that time:

Uh-Oh Spaghetti-O is now Miraak Kitchen and Bar, Tippler’s Tap Fortitude Valley moved to Southbank, the Rumpus Room CLOSED, and Parched is now The Brew Baron Beer Co.

Saddest of all: Fitz n Pott’s is no more. I’d barely published my review, when they announced their closing.

Which is why I’ve decided to NOT do any more list challenges.

I dabbled in the idea of all COLOURS themed bars, or only bars with ANIMAL names in them! But what if by the time I write a thing they are closing down. Can’t have that.

So now – it will be bar stories ad hoc.

This was supposed to be the end, but now I think: it’s the beginning.
