Saying it’s the second bar for Suburban Social, because the first is at Chapel Hill on the northside of Brisbane. It did so well that the blokes started this sister bar on the southside – and I was keen to check it out.
So I made it the S bar on my 2022 list, Z to A of Brisbane bars.
I drove down one sunny Sunday afternoon, and found the excellent (spacious) car park behind the building. And walked into the bar..
Welcomed with a nice greeting from the staff, who (when I said it was just me) said I could sit anywhere I liked –
Great! At the bar?
“EXCEPT at the bar, as that’s where everyone orders”
OK.
So I chose a seat infront of the giant wall mural of circus peeps. Something bright and colourful to look at, as I sipped my wine and enjoyed a spot of day drinking.
Then I was presented with the biggest soft shell crab burger I’ve ever seen. Super saucy and super delicious, with pickles and mayo. YUM. The sweet potato fries had a nice crunch on the outside, moist on the inside and equally delicious.
I got as many photos as I could without looking like an eager real estate agent. Trying to get the giant plate of food and the pretty painting in the same shot.
Sitting next to an open window was not a great idea, shooing a fly, but I wanted a photo in the other direction too – with this Freddie Mercury-looking circus guy. Just a splendid way to spend the afternoon as I nommed on the lunch I didn’t have to cook.
Super recommend both the Suburban bars, which share the same menu, unsure if this saucy burger is still on it – but they should definitely bring it back as a special.
