Just because I don’t know John himself doesn’t mean I can’t pop in for a coffee, to the darkened corners of the John Mills Himself bar. (Cafe bar that is).
I’ve done beer bars, I’ve been to cocktail bars. Now it was time for a COFFEE bar. Bar #43 for me, and on this list: Z to A Brisbane bars – my J bar.
It was midday on a Monday, and I was in the city for a spot of shopping – until it was coffee time: aka time to find this cafe.
There it was > down an alleyway on Elizabeth street. There’s painted arrows pointing down ramps BUT signs clearly stating: NO PEDESTRIAN ACCESS.
OK I found the place, now how to GET to it..?
Leg it.
OK I ignored the painted street symbols and did a FAST WALK down the ramp. Blatantly ignoring no/walk signs, but. I. couldn’t see any other way to get there. Officer.
No I hope no-one saw.
See the cool signage out front – GOLD – and an impressive floor mosaic ENTRY.
Dark inside the John Mills, but there’s a cute selection of cookies and slices I was distracted by.. Order myself a classic Australian coffee please: a FLAT WHITE
Barista made my brew in RECORD time – barely time to chat. Thank you, to the kind man, who used my name several times.
“Coffee for Kellie? Kellie. Coffee Kellie. Here you go.. Kellie.”
Thank you. I’m Kellie.
Took my beverage outside, with my bags of shopping and pink sunnies, for a rare selfie in the daylight.
And oh yes, the coffee was delicious! There’s a reason people rave about this place. Just make sure you do what I didn’t: enter from the Charlotte street side of the road!
