Even tho it’s a bit of a chain restaurant, El Camino Cantina has a bar! And it fit in nicely with my Z to A list, and another date night with Matt.
The Bowen Hills joint was brightly lit, all vibrant and neon colours outside and in.
It’s a LARGE venue and there’s a billion bar stools all around. If I wasn’t on a date, I would’ve sat at the bar – drinking tequila. Instead we chose a booth in the corner – and drank tequila.
The walls were exposed brick, decorated with Mexican ceramic tiles, all ‘day of the dead’ theme – skulls and coool ART in little cupboards. There’s lots to look at.
Sombreros are all over the tables and hang over the bar – if you’re inspired to wear one, you can. (we didn’t).
There was NO table service. All ordering was done through QR codes. I could write a whole other article about QR codes…(love em/hate em. YES.)
We scrolled and tapped menus on our phones – while staff dropped off little snacky corn chips..
Dinner was a bunch of chicken wings, GIANT glasses of lemon, lime & bitters, and 2 x tequila cocktails.
Could’ve been that Matt and I were deep in conversation, but we didn’t see staff much at all.
They delivered plates with food and collected plates without food – oh and told us they were closing..
Matt was keen to catch up again and “What are we doing on the weekend?”
We.
He said WE.
He had watched me demolish a plate of chicken wings and still wanted to hang out. He invited me to a party to meet his friends. Great! This was great.
Also great was the chicken wings (recommend) but the tequila was a bit weak soz.
3 chicks!
