Fitz + Potts

For once – there was two beers. TWO (and i wasn’t double-parked).

First time at Fitz n Potts was a fifth or sixth date with Matt. He would lol that i was counting dates, but really I was wondering: at what stage in the dating process do i reveal: my hobby for the past 12 months had been bar hopping..?

I’d gotten used to rocking-up to bars ‘solo traveller’ style.

This time – I had caught the train to Nundah cuz Matt wanted to meet me on the platform AND he would have, if I didn’t walk right past him (whoops) to swipe my Go Card. But once he chased me down ->we walked hand-in-hand to the bar.

Up the stairs and into F&P, is like walking into a retro 70’s house. There’s cute rooms with an assortment of furniture: couches, chairs and coffee tables.

There’s a disco ball sparkling on the roof and colourful streamer decorations. This bar speaks to me.

Matt and I grabbed some beers and ordered house-made jaffles with a side of sweet potato fries (YUM). He chose us swively chairs by the window and I took this photo –

I liked the love heart scratched into the table. I liked the street light coming in through the shutters.

and I liked the way Matt listened to my stories..

When people ask me what makes a bar GOOD: it’s how I feel when I’m there. The vibe. It’s the memories I associate with a place: did I feel welcome? Could I chill out? Would I stay for another drink?

We had many beers at Fitz, and dinner was the jaffles, and we talked until the sun went down. I told him about the challenge I invented for myself – not just any bar hopping – ALPHABETICAL bar hopping.

He watched me spinning on my chair, and was keen to join me on my adventures. Wha – Really?

Yep, he thought it was great, and “what’s next on the list?”

I only had five bars to go on the Z to A challenge. E, D, C, B, A. 

Awesome.

This is what I will remember about Fitz n Potts. Those first memories, spinning on the chair, jaffles, and Matt giving me his hoodie to keep warm. 

I don’t care if the beers looked flat (they weren’t), I was on a fifth or sixth date with a great guy.
