Isles Lane

If you haven’t heard of this bar – das okay, me neither til I was specifically looking for a bar starting with the letter i for my Z to A challenge. April 2022.

Actually I was supposed to go to It’s Still A Secret for a Lee Griffin show, but that got cancelled last minute.

I kinda believe everything happens for a reason, it freed me up to find this place, and catch up with a mate in the city. It wasn’t a date, but he piked last minute. The classic, as soon as I sat down with my schooie, a text: “Sorry! Can’t make it, have fun tho!”

I will, thank you. You have just given me a lovely gift: time to myself. It was shortly after my thirty-somethingth birthday and it had been a busy time, as birthdays usually are. So it was nice to relax and have some quiet contemplation time.

Staring out the window, people watching. I saw the sun go down, and only took one photo. Alphabeticalbars.com hadn’t been invented yet, so I didn’t chronicle my every move – I didn’t even get a photo of the front.

Google maps was super helpful (as usual), it’s shop 10a/300 Queen Street, Brisbane City. If you take the bus to Post Office square (like I did) just walk towards the statues in the park and you’ll find Isles Lane.

After a bunch of businessmen left, I had the place to myself. GREAT for me, sucky for the 5 or 6 staff waiting for me to order SOMETHING. “Food? More drink?”

I only popped in for the beer sorry, but I did have a chat. I learnt the bar had been there for four years already and OH wow that seems like a good while. The lady I spoke to had only worked there a week so conversation was limited.

Cool.

It felt like everyone was watching me, watching my beer.
