This was a little adventure all on it’s own: it was a Wednesday and a lunch time, and I caught the CityCat ferry to West End – THEN walked up Hoogley Street to Raven Street and realised OH that’s why they call it The Raven Hotel.
It was a HOT January day, and summer in Brisbane means a summer of SPORT and beers. Mostly the beers.
Inside, the pub was air-conditioned and had TENNIS on all the big screen TVs. The beers on tap were – ooh a Balter please!
But the keg had JUST been put on and still warm… So I went a schooie of Stone & Wood – Pacific Ale. Cheers! a light and refreshing beer>
Outside, Andrew was in the courtyard (which was nice and green and airy) and we studied the menu for lunch items: I went the fish (beer battered) and chips – with mushy peas. Andrew went the chickpea burger (VG)
Before the lovely staff let us know there would be a wait for the fish.. but “Would you like a round of Stone & Woods to make up for it?”
We’d LOVE that.
And true to their word, provided the goods when I popped up for some pour-your-own-waters. Thank you, thank you! Super glad I didn’t drive now.
The food was worth the wait –
And I’m sure (after this story) the fish is going to be the FASTEST menu item. Lol. and the Balter will be cold.
