Tippler’s Tap, South Brisbane

Technically: Tipplers Tap take 2 –

Cuz I visited when they were at Fortitude Valley, BUT in 2023 they moved to South Brisbane and THIS TIME there’s whole new get-up: SELF SERVE TAPS.

First thing to notice is: HEY, there’s a lot less WALLS than the Fortitude Valley bar> Proving you only need like 2 walls and a bunch of posts (right?)

Which makes for a super open (inviting) and airy spot at practically South Bank. Also it’s hard to tell where the footpath ends and the entry begins and while you’re thinking about that BAM – you’re inside. may as well grab a drink.

So, whaddaya feel like?

-Backstory: Marty was in town and when Marty’s in town it is mandatory to bar (Greg also popped in for the catch up). It was mid-Dry-July for me (I was doing a NO-alcohol challenge) so even MORE FUN for me-

BACKTOTHEBAR

This is a CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE bar:

You can go up to the regular normal bar with 8-ish beers/cider on tap and a real bartender person will be happy to pour those for you, or fetch you a fridge can.

>OR<

YOU be the BARTENDER.

We asked how the Self Serve works (Marty asked) Here’s the things that were explained to us:

Grab a special Tippler’s Tap card from the front counter and load it with some dollarydoos. Take that to one of the 18 taps on the wall and place in the SLOT. Grab a cup (any cup!) and off you pour. The value of the card decreasing as pouring occurs.

I took a little vid of the taps:

There’s lagers, there’s ales, there’s ciders, there’s a MOSCOW MULE COCKTAIL, sour beers if that’s your thing, IPAs from either coast, stouts and porters and ginger beer.

The wall cabinet has every kind of drinking vessel: pot glasses, tulip glasses, pints and JUGS and cocktail glasses.

It’s a great place to sample a beverage before committing to a cupful. or jugful. Marty & Greg went to town trying the beers – working their way from tap to tap.

There were NO non-alcoholic beverages on tap (except WATER) SO i got a Heap’s Normal XPA can from the fridge. then a lemonade, not pictured at all.

it felt good to CRACK a beer (even tho it was non-alcoholic) and play pretend drinker with my friends. I assured them I would be back on the booze by the next catch-up.

There’s a variety of sports playing on the TVs, along with music pumping about, so don’t expect to hear the sports. but you can definitely watch every game all at once!

Marty took this cracker of a photo before we demolished a whole BUNCH of tasty foods.

Greg, me and Marty – Excellent photography, Marty!

We ordered a good whack of food: Cheeseburger spring rolls, cauliflower bites, pork belly bites, CHIPPIES!

and everything was super tasty. it was as good as it looks.

So,

can you sit at the bar? No. but all the tables kinda look like bars, AND – there’s big tables if you have a big group and smaller tables if it’s just ya self.

is it cheaper than a pub? I reckon it’s about the same.

Would i go back? YES, I would like to do the pouring of beers next time, and i still have Marty’s card!
